CALCUTTA, May 6,
During the fighting at Landikotal, the 40th Pethans made a great dash, and carried a strongly-beld high crest commanding the British blockhouse. Also, in conjunction with the Royal Munster Fusiliers, they captured a series of ridges loading to Kargale village, where tho severest fighting occurred.
The tribesmen lost 300 killed and as many wounded at Shabkadnr and Landikotal.

Some contingente who attacked the Khyber came from Tezra, thirty-five mites from Kabul.
■ General Willcocks returns to Peshawur to-day. The forces are retiring on Alemasjid and Peshawur. Two mountain guns remain at Landikotal.
