DIOCESAN STANDING COMMITTEE.
The Standing Committee met on May sth, under the presidency of tho Yen. Archdeacon Harper, Commissary of tho Bishop. A report from the subcommiitit.ee for education was read, and, as recommended, tho Boy. J3- H. Shore was appointed diocesan examiner for the current year. A report from the sub-committee for the -'Church News" was read- and discused. Mr E. J. Ross forwarded a report on the question of a general diooeean oocident insurance of church employees in the various cures. The report was received, with thanks, but thy conclusion was como to tiat a general insurance involved too much trouble in gcttdng rertrarns of employees, wages, etc., to bo practicable. The consideration of proposed amendments of the Pension Fund regulations was deferred to the next meeting. On tho application of tho vostry, Hokitika, it was decided to recommend the Church Property Trustees to mako a further loan of £75, on the ten years' scale, to meet extra expenditure in completing the new vicarage. On the recommendation of tho Archdeacon of Timaru, it was resolved to recommend the Church Property Trustees to accept the offer from Mr George Roberto oi half an acre of land at Kakahu, parish of Geroldine, as a site for a church, and that the thanks of the committee be tendered to the donor. The Archdeacon of Timaru reported that the church officers of Otaio and Blue Cliffs were willing to accept all responsibilities in connection with tho five sections at Tavist'ock, offered for church purposes, by iMr, T. Teeehemaker. Mr D'Arcy Haggitt was elected a member of the Standing Committee, and Mr W. C. Bean a member of the Sub-committee for Loans and Plans, in the place of Mr W. G. Brittan, resi gnod. A report by the experts employed by the Church Property Trustees, on tho condition of several of tho houses belonging to the West Lyttalton Endowment, was read, and it was ordered that c copy be sent to the church officers, with a statement of the opinion of the- Standing Committee in the matter. A letter from Mr R. Maffoy, churchwarden of Hororata, was referred to the Bishop. The *urn of £5 16s Gd wes voted from tho Church Mission Fund for travelling expenses of the lay reader in tho Malrern cure, 1905-1908; and from tho General Diocesan _ Fund tho etm of £16 3s 4d. additional assessment for the 'purposes of the General Synod for the years 1907-1910. Archdeacon Scott was authorised to countersign cheques on the Diooeean Fund account. A letter from, the <drarcbiwiarden<j of St. John's, Chrietclrurch, with reference to the school site, was read, and tho Revs. C. H. Gces&t and W. "W. Sedgwick and Mr C- H. Bridge were requested to inspect and report at the next meeting.
