Tota', i £220 (h u<l. The Lire's have cost os j lOid each for food, grit, etc., and nave : returned per Jiead for eggs sold at la • lid per dozen delivered at Lincoln, tho sum of 13s 3fd", leaving a balance, j e\cli'.t.-.ivo of labour, rent -iiid depreeia-l-tion. of 7s 5d per bird for tho tc-n ' months of the competition. In this statement no credit is allowed for manure and no debit h made for roots, such as mangels, etc., but tho ono will approximately balance the other. There is no charge for tho rent of 2i acres of land occupied by the pens and interest and depreciation on the houses end material of tho pens is not debited. It wouk! be misleading to debit rent, say £ I 10s, an tho land is too good for poultry, and interest and depreciation, say £60 to £t>o, as the provision for j accommodation for rhd purposes of the competition is much more elaborate , than would be necessary for poultry i farming as a business—probably twice as much. On the other hand, it -would also .be misleading not to point out that tho birds.are specially bred and ; selected, and represent considerable I outlay for breeding and rearing, which ;is not debited, and their value at the ; end of tho competition is not credited. Further the assistance given by students during the session ie free. i .— _
