(BY OUB COMMERCIAL EDJTOtt.f Business in wheat continues within narrow limits, and the .number of lines placed on offer by growers during the past week' has been very small. The bulk of the transactions since last report havo been between merchants, the prices asked by growers being in nearly e"*ery case too high to lead to business. Since last report the following purchases have been made from farmers, the grain in each case being bought on trucks at country stations:—2oo sacks Tuscan at- 4s sd, 200 sacks velvet at 4s 3d, 150 sacks Hunter's at 4s 3d, 200 sacks Tuscan, at 4e 4d, -and 200 sacks Velvet at 4s 4d. The oate market is slightly firmer, but there has not been any advance- in values. Local prices still rulo about Id above Southland quotations, and in consequence of this little business has been done. Very f° u " oats havo been shipped from Canterbury to other parts of the Dominion, except to ports not touched at by tho southern boats. At present all large orders are being placed down south. One of the best sales made since last report was a line of 200 eacks of Ihins at 2s 4Jd on trucks at a country station. Some difficulty is being experienced in obtaining second-hand sacks for chaff, and this has had the effect of hindering business. The present value of chaff is £3 los per ton, but in most cases holders are asking £4. In potatoes a fair business has been done on a basis of £3 los for Up-to-Dates, and £3 17s 6d for Derwents. Peas, except Prussian Blues, which aro unobtainable, arc- dull of sale, and the demand for beans is quiet. The price of onions has advanced to £o Oβ for. tho best classes. The undermentioned are the prices paid to farmers, at country stations, free of commission, except where otherwise stated:— Wiheat —Is 3d "to 4b sd, at coumtry stations. Oate—2s 3d to 2s 4Jd at country stations. \ iiarloy (nominal) —Good malting 4s (kl to 4s 9d, at country stations. Rye' Grass—Perennial, 2js 6d to 3s 6d, extra prime seed 3s 6d, Italian good' grado 2s fid to 3s 3d. Cocksfoot—l2lb to 131b seed. 8d to 9d. Cowgrass—9d to 9Jd. Peas—Partridges 3s 6d to.4s, Prussian Blues 5e 6d, at country stations. Flour—£ll 10a per ton. Bran—£s 5e per ton. Pollard—£6 10s. Oatmeal—£l4. Oatsheaf Ohaff—£3 los, at country stations. Potatoes—£3 15s Up-to-Dates, and £3 17s 6d for' Derwents,. at country stations. ~
