THE SINGLE DESK.
TO TUB EDITOR Off "THE PEESS." Sir, —In your issue this morning you were good enough to publish Mr Jamieson's figures as to mc cost of installing the single desk in our schools. On the pJea that "there are always two eidce to c. question," I hope you will grant mc the same privilege, and publish .my figures, which I read :at the meeting last night. I<n the-fipefc place, * the expense question is . a "bogey," because it does not matter whether single or dual desks are instituted, the money has tooame from the same exchequer. In. the second place, the Board has not been esked to spend, thousands at ail. It has been respectfully asked to'spend the money on the single desk instead of the dual —installing the desks by decrees. The North Canterbury JBduoation Board—Dual desk, £1 lls 64, £1 9a Gd, £1 7b 6d and £1 5s 6d. The Ohristchuroh Technical College— Ehial desk, £1 9s; single desk, £1. South Canterbury Education Board— Single d«3fc, 17s 3d. "Wanganui Education Board—Single desk, 15s 3d. I also said that we had thirteen Boards to administer the Education Act, and these Boards cost ns for the financial • year 1906, £32,000 odd.— Yours, etc., D. LUMSDEN. Ohristchurch, April 28th.
