MELBOURNE, April 30. Iα 1906, tho Commonwealth Government passed an Act .abolishing tho rat© of one-halfpenny per word, previously paid to tho Eastern Extension Company for -messages transmitted over the Tasmanian cables, leaving tho Company only tho minimum sum guaranteed. The Company is now issuing a writ «gainst tJie Government, claiming damages equal to the difference between the guarantee and the receipts which would have accrued if the halfpenny rate had not been abolished. FEDERAL POLITICS. Tho Government sustained throe, rorersoe last flight over the Senate's tariff recommendations.
SYDNEY LABOUR OOSGHBSS. . SYDNEY, April 30. Th© Labour Congress decided that it is desirable that the Federal Government should control all industrial legislation. It ; also carried an emphatic protest against the. Government spending £50,000 in entertaining the American Navy.
