SATURDAY'S GAMES.
After the usual Easter games, Saturday marked tho commencement of tlio Canterbury Rugby Union's matches for the various championship.?. The weather being all that could I>© desired, and tho playing arenas in pprfent order, local players and .nthusia_t_> made a most auspicious beginning. Despite the strong counter attraction at the Metropolitan trotting grounds, there was a good, attendance nit- the various con- --_.:_, and especially at Lancaster Park where there was a large nuiiiter of Indies. Chief interest wa.s centred in the Albion-.Svdenh«nii game, and after ft hard game, last year's chamipioiis were d-r.eated by 3 paints to nil. The two other ca-mc. provided surprises. Old Boys defeating Christ oh urch dooi'-ivcly by 24 points to 3, whiio Canterbury College won their match against T.inwoo;) by i'O points to 9. 'fho gate taking amount-d to £39 12s.
