Bo& men. received a hostile reception and fled down the river in their launch, pursued by a horde of frenzied Papuans, but. to their dismay, the fugitives found six war canoee coming np stream-. These, however, turned out to be friendly natives, who had been attracted by the war cries of the wild tribe, and they rescued th© two men.
