BOXING
The sixth annual Teport of the New Zealand' Boxing Council states that the sport is steadSy increasing in public favour. During tho past season tlie standard of boxing was very satisfactory, particularly when the dearth of skilled instructors was remembered. As the sport grew, this disability would, no doubt, disappear. On the whole, continued the committee, the amateur branch had been well catered for, but. more might well have been done for it by local associations, even while admitting that the promotion of regular competitions was a matt ©a - of some difficulty, particularly as regards obtaining suitable buildings at. favourable periods,. It was pleasing to note, however," that tbe Wellington and Canterbury Associations were moving in a direction which promised a good result in the future. As it was clearly the duty of all local associations to do their utmost to assist those who had a desire to become competitors, it was to bo hoped that during the coming season advantage would be taken of every opportunity to promote competitions. Tlie Council had noticed with plea-sure the enthusiastic manner in which the sport had been taken up by the pupils at Christ's College and tlie Christchurch Boys' High School, and it was gratifying to learn that, during the coming season the Wellington Association had hopes of succeeding in having boxing introduced into the secondary educational institutions of the Dominion's capital city. Other associations might-well-endeavour to follow the good lead that had been given in this direction.
