Tho regulations governing the New Zealand llcsearch (Scholarships provide that one Research Scholarship will be olEered each year for each of the four Uuiversity Colleges. Any holder of t'he degree of Bachelor of Science, Engineering; Agriculture, Medicine, or Veterinary or any oCher graduato of tho University of New Zealand, who has satisfied tbe requirements for a certiiicatie of. proficiency in physics, chemistry, biology, geology, or physiology, will h& eligible for the scholarship, provided ho has given evidence of ,nis power u> carry on original work. The Iwsoarch Scholarship lioard for each College is to consist of the Pro-

of Education will nominate an expert- ,- in th« particular branch of researcH. concerned to bo a member of thp 13oard. and to assist in supervising the work of tho scholar. Tho names cfP candidates recommended for thescholajt*. l ship are to be made by the Boards between March Ist and May 31st eaett voar. Eadi acholarship will bo bf the value of £100 per annum (pattt quarterly), together with College labortp tory fees, the cost of special app&r&itSw or spocittl books required for tne pas° pose of tho research, and the actaijt travelling fares or cost of transit white , the holder is engaged on the work <i# rtssearch. Each (scholarship will be tenable for two years if the bolder ■'? shall so .long fulfil the prescxibed ootfi ditions, but the tenure may beex- ,- tended to a third year on toe reooaM'* mendation of the Ijoard, approved _ by the Minister. With such, exception?. as may be previously approved by the Board and the Minister, the holder shall be required to devote his whole time during the tenure of the scholarship to tho work of .research in' a subject or subjects tCbe selected by him at tho time of application from an approved list of subjects in which reseaTch is likely to be of economic value to the industries of the Itaminion- All the results of tho research carried on by any holder of the .scholarships in accordance with the terms of thescholarship are to bo the property of the Government. The holder must' ombody an account of-the resalte of bis research in a detailed report which: the Minister, if he sees fit, will have published. The following ie a provisional list of subjects of research:—• Economio Entomology— Sonne one definite branch of the subject, as the life history of a useful or of a harmful insect, with indications based on exact experiment of the proper time and circumstances for intervention.
Plant Diseases (such as are not included above)— Definite investigation into tho origin and course of diseases of a given disease group, or of the various diseases affecting any important plant or group of plants, with .indications of the means of prevention and cure'; the detailed* chemistry of ftingicides and blight eprays, and their effects. Diseases of, Farm Animals and Domestic Animals (so far as these are not included above)-—Definite investigation into the origin and course of diseases of a given disease group, or of.
