« - ' NEW REGULATIONS. A recent "Gazette" contains new regulations for.the inspection and ex- , amination of schools. Clause 4 pre- . videe that dn general the oassifieation of a &choal alia 11 be dotermwind ait the , beginning of ifclra year; but, if necessary, promotion of individual pupils from class to class may be madij at any other time by the head teacher. Clause 5 and 6 provide that the headteaohor ebail draw up for each year schemes of work for all the classes in his school, and shall hold thereon not fewer than three periodical examinations of tho cKiisses, the la&tof which, called the "annual examination," shall bo Vi*»ld in November or December, and he shall keep for th-e information of the Inspector a record cv the nature and results of these examinations. Immediately after the annual exsuniTiat.ton tho teacher uliall forn-iard to the Inspector, hi duplicate, a copy of the results of ihnt exami.nu.tion. The Inspector may return the class lists cf the annual esamination to the headteacbeT and requiro him to note in the column for remarks tho reason for more or less rapid ■ promotion in. the case of any pupil whose <ngc is much above the average age of tho pupDJs in tbafclaas for that trchool or -tbat education district, and t-o forwdrtl such of the examination papers as tho Inspector may desire; and ithe Inspector may approve or not of tho sufficiency of "the reason or explanation gaven.
