THE FEDERAL CRISIS.
MR DEAKIN'S TACTICS
A WARM-DEBATE,
United Press Association—By Electrio Telesrraph—Copyright.
MELBOURNE, April 16
Mr Deakin, in his statement to the House, asked that other business should stand aside in order to make way for the Tariff Bill. He thought that the first task incumbent upon the House was to deal with the tariff. The Government could not subordinate this question at present to any other, however important it might be. He proposed to proceed with the Tariff Bill next Wednesday. He then moved that other questions on the business paper, including Mr Webster's motion and the Capitol Sites Bill, bo postponed till the Tariff Bill had become law.
A warm debate followed, during which Mr IJeid and Mr Joseph Cook attacked Mr Deakin over Mr Webster's motion, and the incident that followed. Mr Deakin replied that he was willing to accept a challenge from the Opposition, at frny time.
The motion to place the Tariff Bill at the head of the business paper was carried, and the House then adjourned till Wednesday.
