WOOL SALES.

•■"■■. ■•":[■ / _ 4 : : i;.' ' THFW OFTHE SERIES. The. third wool sale of this season's series was commenced yesterday in the Alexandra Hell,.when 17,862 bales were catalogued." There was a large attendance of buyers representing Home, foreign, and local interests. Though a considerable lot. of wool passed in at previous sales was re-offered, there was "also a good selection of large clips of halfbred, .merino, and crossbred wools The sale was en all-round improvement .on the two previously held. There was more animation and confidence. in the bidding, and buyers had "evidently extended their limits of value. The result was that the first large catalogue submitted, which occupied the whole of' the" forenoon, was almost e«W out, very few lota-being passed in. There was a general improvement in prices, merino of all descriptions selling well, but as very little was offered at the. previous sales it is difficult to say how much advance was shown. Super halfbreds showed little change, but medium -halfbreds were considered to be up •fully a halfpenny, and there was an advance of a fartiiing to a halfpenny in good crossbreds and three-fluarterbreds. Though there .was no . improvement' in coarse and inferior descriptions of wool the tone of the market even for these was rather firmer. The Southern woollen mills competed strongly for fine halfbreds and merinos, and materially assisted to strengthen values, but the relief in the money market at Home has probably been the means of giving the outside buyers more freedom in their operations. The bulk lots were gottbrough at a late hour in the evening, and the "Star" lots will be. offered to-day. Among the best'prices were Culverden greasy halfbred 12id, merino 13d ? scoured halfbred 20d, scoured merino 22d; Waipara Downs balfbred 12d; EM halfbred 12d; P, merino 13J<1, pieces Hid", halfbred U§d; Surrey Hills, merino 12id; Waitohi Downs, halfbred 12d; JE over Tara, Corriedale 12d.
