MEETING OF CREDITORS.
An adjourned meeting of creditors in the estate of Eugene Laugher was heM at- the office of }he Ofiitial Assignee yesterday. 3tr Weston appeared for .Mr Michaut, tho petitioning creditor, Mr Stringer, X.C, for tho Assignee, and Mr Upham for the bankrupt. Mr Michaut submitted a sworn statement in reply to the bankrupt's statement at the previous meeting. Deponent denied that Laugior's stock was worth over £Bou. and claimed that its value was not more tlian £'300. He had not offered Laugier tho book debts as a bribe to keep his mouth shut about the firo. Mi> Oliehaut) had no connection with the fire, and the interested parties had satisfied themselves that no suspicious circumstances attached to his action. Tho whole of Lander's statements in regard to money matters were grcntly exaggerated. Laugicr hsirj done nothing at all since the adjournment to earn the fmall salary he had been allowed out of the estate. Cross-examined by Mr Upham: The insurance company refused to pay the money cm the- furniture destroyed on the ground that it did not belong to witness, but to Lcuigier, ami was not covered by Hi© policy. Lankier was entitled to one-fourth, of tibe Manchester street stock. M.r J. W. Jamieeon reported th.it he hid valued the We-lJington stock at £1700. The cost price would be about one-third less. After further discussion tho meeting was adjourned to enable Mr Jamieson. if possible, to ascertain whit fliare of the stock* I<eugier w«.s entitled to.
