good authority that there is no truth in tho statement that Mr F. J. ttolleston intends to contest tho Ashburton seat at the forthcoming general election. Messrs A. S. Endean, J. C. Burns, A. J. Mann (Dunedin). H. W. Bannister, T. R. McCnllough (Melbourne), and G. A. Prevost (Adelaide) ar* at present visitors to Christchurch. Dr. Webster, of Wellington, returned t<> New Zealand by the Moeraki on Wednesday, after spending ten months in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Mrs Webster, who remained in Australia during Dr. Webster's journeyings in oldor lands, also returned to Wellington by the Moeraki.
