AN OLD-FASHIO NED DIPLOMATIST.
jl r Labouchere was an attache at Stockholm, when -Sir Arthur Magenis jjrili_.li Ambassador. Sir Arthur Maceius was a curiou* specimen ~f in oid-I~hioii< d diplomatist (writes Mr labouchere). He was a kindly, courteous gentleman, but he almost drove mc mad, tor he was .-o fond of racing that he dated past events, not by Years, but by the winner ol tho Derby of year. 'lhus. when he wanted a despatch for reierence, 1m would say to mc, "You "ill find it in tho year tliat Spontaneous Combustion (or what ♦he horse might be) won the Derby, •bout the time of tho Second October Meeting." As I was not as well up in racing chronology as he was, this was a little vague for mc, but 1 never could get from him any other indication.
