Tho annual sports meeting was held on Saturday, and was a great success. Tho weather was favourable, and n go«xl day's entertainment was provided. A very successful concert in aid ot the local cricket club vas given on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, which would have been considerably larger had the evening been cooler. After Sir William Steward had, on behalf of the club, thanked thoso presout for their patronage, a long and highly enjoyable programme was gone through. Mrs Jennings gavo two guitar solos, and Jliss Liston a much-appreciated piano selection"! Miss Anderson and ■Mγ* Haynes danced a Highland Fling and an Irisli jig respectively, both items being encored. Songs wero given by Misses Gray and Ilaiiiton, Mrs Hjomng, Mcesra ItussvU, Corbett, and Bnnz, ail of xvexo loudly apjilauded. The club is under a deep debt of gratitude to all tho performers, and in particular to Mr Bunz, whoso wide experience proved invaluable.
It is pleasing to note thnt both the defects at tho Spa, which were mentioned last "week, have been remedied. The ehonor baths in tho cold poo] aro now available, and the offending whito seats are being repainted. W'AIAU. Tho drawing for .Miss Grant's art union took place in the llink last Friday. A largo number of thoso interested assembled. The winning numbers are published in our advertising columns. After tho results ivero <loclared a programme, in which dance and song alternated, was gone through. Light retreelimeiits vroto handed round, and a very onjoy;iblo evening wag passed. OXFORD. A concert was given in the East Oxford Town Hall on Boxing Night, a programme having ,been arranged by Mcs&re Alex. Arthur and A. J. Hall and a number of ladies and gentlemen spending Christmas holiday* in camp at tthj Ashley. The programme was much appreciated by ft large audience. Another concert will bo given on Now Year's Night, when a different programme will bo submitted. KAIAPOI. At the Court yesterday n prohibition order was made against an Ohoka resident for twelve iponths>, to apply to tho Kaiapoi licensing district. ASHLEY. Tho annual treat and presentation of prizes was held in the school ground on December 20th. There was a good atten3nnce of parents and friends. The Rev. H. E.
