CHRISTCHURCH DRAINAGE BOARD.

A meeting of the CJhristohurdh Dnwmege Board held last evening was attended by Messrs W. Hill (chairman), J. Forrester, S. A. Staples, F. J. Barlow, H. J. Otlev. W. E. Samuels, W. J. Walter, and*B. J. H. Carew. COMMITTEE REPORTS. Tlie Works Committee reported that tihe tender of Moore Bros. (£507) for Boundary road storm water sewer had been accepted. The question of "sick pay" had been considered, end it had been resolved that the pay of all employees of the Board engaged at day wages should cease in the case of such employees being absent through sickness or other cause, or on holidays other than statutory holidays. The report was adopted. A special report was presented regarding plumbers' qualifications and examinations. The subject was brought tip last December in a letter from the Director of the Technical College, in ■which he asked whether diploma* granted subject to the College examiratians -would be recognised by the Board. It was proposed to ask the Board's engineer to eat as chairmen of the Board of Examiners, two other examiners to be appointed by the Drainage Board, the fourth being the instructor in plumbing and sanitary ecienoe to the Board of Managers. It was then resolved that the request be acceded to in, terms of the application. The Special Committee now recommended as follows:—That plumber*' examinations bo held on the lines of the foregoing resolution, excepting that the Board will be renresentod on the examining body by the engineer ac chairman, end the present senior examining plumber, the College appointing euch other examiners as it may thank fit; that any applicant for -i plumber's license holding the City and Guilde of London Institute's honours certificate, or the Auckland and Wellington City Council licensee (the last-mentioned issued educe uhe year 1904), he licensed by the Board, subject to the approral of the Board of Examiners; that the. Board's engineer and the Director of the College be empowered to frame suitible regulations for periodicail and intermediate examinations as such may be found necessary. The report was agreed to. OOERESPONDENOE. The City Council reported a nuisance in Taylor's lone, off Aberdeen street, and the Sanitary Committee asked the Board to lay a Bower in the lane, in order to abate the nuisance. It was decided that tenders be called for the work.

The Town Clerk, Cbristchurch, advised that the City Council would not in future take over the maintenance of streets in which sewago worke had been carried out until the expiration of six months after the completion ot the works.. The engineer had replied that in future contracts effect would be given to the Council's decision, but he requested the Council to treat existing contract* on the old baei*. The reply was approved, and the engineer was authorised to confer with the City Engineer in regard to the matter.

Messrs Ihinoan, Cotterill, and Stringer applied for the payment of £150, the Board's share of the cost* of the Drainage Commission. The letter was referred to the Board's solicitor. GENERAL. The tender of P. W. Soaiwe (£B6 10s) wad accepted for the construction of St. Luke'e drain. The tender of J. Phillip U2163 Os 2d) was accepted for widening the Canal Reserve drain. The fee for all septio tanks oonnected with the Board's drains or streams wm fixed at £1 per annum. Aocounts for £13,295 8s lid w«re passed . _ .
