ISDEPENDENT POLITICAL LABOUR LEAGUE.
I • 4 A meeting of the Christchurch Branch of the Independent Political Labour League was held at the Tradte Hall on Thursday evening, the VfcePresid.ant, Mr D. G. Sullivan, bmug • in tho chair. A letter was read from the Women's Institute inviting the League to appoint two delegates to , represent it at a conference to bo held in February to deal with tho question of the care of the neglected and destitute children of the State. Messrs Thorn and Sullivan wore appointed. The general secretary wrote, fonvaid- i ing remits for discussion at the annual ' conference. The Christchurch delegates ' Messrs Thorn and Hxward, were instructed to oppose the proposals that '• the ordinary subscription be five shillings per annum, that the subscription for members of affiliated unions be i fourpence per member per quarter, and I that members of the party bo allowed' 1 to join any Ministry with consent of ] two-thirds of the party in the House i of Representatives. The delegates were instructed to support the pro- > posal that the regulation compelling ] members of affiliated unions to sign ] the League pledge should be eliminated. On a number of minor questions the | delegates were given a free hand. Considerable discussion took place on , the present politic-al situation, and the preepects of the party, and the opinion j was generally expressed that a pernis- j tent and energetic agitation would eventually result in the establishment of an independent labour i>arty in tho " House of Representatives. 1
