THE SIZE OF CORNSACKS.

In view of the big surplue of cornsacks which will have to be carried over to next year (says tho "Sydney Mail"), the decision of the Minister for Customs to fix 2001b capacity as the standard size of cornsacke in the futuro is one of much concorn to importers, as also to farmers and wheat shippers, whose business interests are likewise involved. It hae not yet been officially decided when the new order will come into force, but tho Minister indicated to the Melbourne representative of the "Sydney Morning Herald' , that adequate time would bo allowed in order that the importers might make provision for the change. »o far so good. It makes little difference to importers what tho standard is, so long as their business is not dislocated. It is suggested, however, that it will make a lot of difference to both farmers and grain shippers if the standard is fixed on the basis of a weight instead of on a measurement—that is to say, on tho size of the sack itself. Of course it has yet to be proved whether tho alteration is really wanted. That the farmers do not want the smaller sack has been made plain already in this State, and was during the week made equally plain in Victoria by the deputation from the Farmers Union which waited on. the Minister. The general assumption is that the wharf labourers want it, and this, as a matter of fact, i* the explanation of the Minister's action.
