♦ ■ LYTTELTON PIRATES CLUB. The inemberfl of the Lyttelton Pirates Amateur Swimming Club celebrated the opening of the season 00 Saturday afternoon. Mr C. Ferrier, vice-president, formally declared tihe season' open, and incidentally remarked that swimming would be improred if more long-distance raocerwere hold, Sereral raoe* were got off during the afternoon under the direction of Messrs. O. Ferrier and W. G. Johnston, judges; C. Mazey, starter; ■T. Walee, timekeeper; J. Grabb, ■eoretory; and T. Qillard, dub captain. Following *f* the result*:-— Fifty Yards Club Handicap—First heat: D. Brown 1, D. Bamford 2. Second heat: J. Boyd 1, F. Reid 2. Third heat: H. Reid 1, B.< Rhind 2. Final heat: D. Brown 1, H. Reid 2. Twonty-five Yards dub Handicap— First heat: D. Brown I, 0. Toomey 2. Second heat: F. Reid 1, N. Serra 2. Third heat: E. Peroiral 1. H. Reid 2. Final: 0. Toomey 1 ; D. Brown 2. Schoolboys' Handicap—M. Brown 1, Harkist 2. Life-earing Competition—B. Rhind 1, N. Serra 2. C. Boyd and B. Perodral also started.
