'Pro Bono Publico."—Wβ have referred your qnerj to the City Engineer, Wellington, who courteously informs us that th© cost per square yard of pavement on the Wellington city streets was about 18s. This is exclusive of many minor and incidental works necessary in connection with the principal undertaking, and which consisted of alterations to drains, altering levels of kerbs, channels, crossings, and provision of new eewer and storm-water drain manholes. Tue price varies according to the nature and depth of excavation, and also depends on the price of materials. The total cost per square yard of work done in Wellington, including all the incidental work above referred to, was lftj.
