place anything faulty or damaged after the ship haa left Lyttelton. A large quantity of stores—about 400 packages of jams, preserves, etc., wera landed in Lyttelton a few days ago from tiio steamer Mamari. These were purchased at Home with the object of obtaining the new season's inyrredients. The carbide of calcium, foi tho acetylene gas plant, which fs to be installed for tho lighting of tho nhoro hut, arrived about three weeks ago by tho Waiwera. # After discharging her cargo, the Nimrod will go into dry dock, and will bo thoroughly overhauled and cleaned and painted. Any caulking ot the Beams oV other repairs found neceaary will also be carried out in dock. It is expected that the Nimrod will bo docked about the end of this week. Tho ernnllncss o f the vessel makes ono wonder where tho necessary room will be found to accommodate the eight or ten additional members of the party who will be joining tho ship shortly. Large quantities of stores, in,.addition to those already on board, will havo to bo stowed somewhere. Then there will bo the sjwcially-built motor-car, a patent collapsible boat, a motor-launch, ten additional sledges, large supplies of fodder for the ponies and a host of other things—all these will have to be stowed somewhere. Tho Nimrod will also have to take in a Inrge 6upply of bunker coal —over thrco hundred tons of Westport coal, and whore room will be found tor this after all the aforementioned cargo is aboard is a mystery to tho uninitiated, but it will be stowed somewhere. One thing is Nimrod will be a full ship when sho leaves Lyttelton. Callers on board tho Nimrod yesterday included the Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr S. 11. Webb), the. Rev. Canon Ooiitee, the IW. E. Eliot Chambers, .Messrs G. Lauronson (Chairman of tho Lyttelton Hitrbour Board), F. WaymoutJi, A. Kaye (members of the Board), O. Hood Williams (secretary of the Board)), and Mr A. Bain (member of the Bluff Harbour Board). Captain England entertained the officers and scientists of the Niinrod at dinner at the United Service Hotel last night.

Mr Halliwell, accompanied by Dr. Forbes 'Mackay, visits Quail Island today, for the purposo of inspecting the Mancburian ponies, and weeding out three. It will bo necessary to construct loose boxes to accommodate tho ponies on the deck of tlie Nimrod during her voyage South. "The Poets' Evening" wne the inspiring title given to one of the several concerts successfully arranged on tho Nimrod during her voyage to Lyttelton. Tho contributions consisted principally of original matter relating to tho Nimrod, and tho attached programme will no doubt be perused with interest:—"Saturday, September 27th, 1907, at Nimrod Hall. The following programme will be rendered : —Poem (selected), Captain England; "Tho Good Old Nimrod , (song), A Cheetham; 'Tho NimrocY* A.8.0.,' R. Mitchell: 'In Quest of the Polo,' H. Bull; 'Molly Malone/ J. Murray,; 'Golden Vanity , (song), H. Dun-lop;' flageolet solo, W. Aneell;; 'Our Ship,' A. E. Mackintosh] limericks (selected). J. Rooney; poem (selected), A. F. Mnckay. Captain England will preside. Gramaphone selections at intervals. Doors open G. 45 p.m. Come early to ovoid tho rush. God Save the King." Prizes for the mos* original contributions wero awarded .tfs follows:—P. Rooney 1, Boatswain Cheetham 2, and H. Bull 3.
