HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Friday, November 22. FIRE BRIGADES BILL. After the Telegraph Office closed, clause 5 of the Fire Brigades Bill was amended by substituting 2000 for 5000, as the required population to constitute a fire district. On the motion of the Minister (Mr Carroll), the Government's contribution to the Boards in the four cities of Auckland, Christchurch. Dunedin, and Wellington was increased from £150 to £200, and in Wellington the contribution; in respect of Parliament and Government Buildings was increased from £100 to £200. On the motion of Sir W. Steward, a new clause was inserted to provide that it shall be lawful for the Boards to insure their member* against accident. The 'Bill, with amendments, wae reported and put through ite final stages. ANIMALS PROTECTION. The Animals Protection Bill was taken in committee. Sub-section F of clause 60, which provides that the Governor may make regulations prohibiting or regulating the coursing of hares in a confined space or enclosure' was amended by striking out "prohibiting or," and a new clause was inserted restricting cylinder shooting. The Bill was put through ite final etages. > The Purangi Landless Natives Bill and the Ngatimaru Landless Natives Bill were puf through committee, reported, and, together with all Bills reported elfc Thureday'eeitttinig.were read a third time and passed. The House rose at 4.5 a.m.
