JOTTINGS FOR FARMERS.
Silver blight is reported to havo appeared in anothor orchard at Manaia. Three trees havo been attacked, and io is noticed that they wero located in a rather too sheltered spot in the orchard, and received leas of the sun's rays than.other plum trees not affected. Orchardists are advised to keep a sharp look-out, as tho most rigid precautions should be taken to provent /tho sproad of the blight from treo to treo. Spraying is ineffectual after tho scourae has appeared, npd tho trees should bo totally destroyed. Tho leaves of a tree affected with the blight in the first stages assume a silvery appearance on the smooth side, and only a close inspection reveala this symptom of tho initial stages. Shearing is now general throughout the Peninsula (writes our correspondent). Despite ' the oontinued dry weather the country is looking its host, and stock of all kinds are in splendid condition. A good downpour of rain would bo very beneficial to the cocksfoot paddocks; and unless this comes tho seed on the lower levels will bo very light, and hardly worth reaping.
