The condition of some country teachers' residences wae adversely commented on at a meeting of the Education Board last evening. One member : quoted a case whero the hou_e was in auch a damp situation that moss was constantly sprouting in tho "fire places. .The chairman (Mr F. Pirani), said ho knew of another whore, the scones liad to he eaten the same day as cooked, because the next day they would be oovered with a coat of mildew owing to th* damp. The "Herald," referring to the quOst-on, suggests that the matter of country teachere' residences is one that \ might well bo taken up by the New Zealand Educational Institute, saying that" under present conditions the men . oharged with an all-important natioiial duty are .often asked to work under disheartening circumstances. * v One member of tho Board at last night's meeting said the Government were talking a lot about what it was doing for education, and it was time it made a start to house teachers decently.
