Tho Intelligence Department, in dealing with the discrepances between its figures and those published in New Zealand in reference to the movement of population between th© two countries, points out there is not likely to be any agreement uniti 1 a common basiß oi calculation is adopted. At the same tamo th© Department is confident of its own figures. Many peotplo doubtless pass through New Zealand and return to Australia by other routes. Th© Department, however, is assured that New Zealand landowners are selling out in considerable numbers, and eominig to New South Wales in search of land. Many of them visit th© Department, and whatever th© cause, the fact is vouched for by th© Department.
