A MAORI WOMAN CHARGED WITH MURDER.
9 (fkess association telegeam.. AUCKLAND, November 21. At the Supreme Court this afternoon, before Mr Justice Denniston. Peti Watene, a young Maori woman, was placed upon" her trial charged with the murder of her husband, Watene Rahane. When the charge was road over to the prisoiier sho replied: "I had been drinking." It was stated that the prisoner, when arrested, said to the constable that she had struck her husb .aid with a hridle, aad that eho did so because he called her bad names.. It was clear that prisoner caused the death of her husband. Tho jury returned a verdict of guilty of manslaughter, with a strong recommendation to mercy. Tho accused was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.
