CANTERBURY CHESS CLUB.
—-—« The Canterbury Ohesß Club held their annual meetinir at the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday evening. Mr J. iSniller presided. The annual report stated that th© year just closed was perhaps the most eventful in the history of the cdaib, on account of the importa-nt congre-a held under its management. The committee thought that, in view of the email which had taken place in the play, it would be advisable for all games to be played at sta.tns odds. The balance-sheet showed a creddt of £4 12s Bd. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The'following officers were elected: —-President, Mr H. J. Nightingale; vioe-preisideint'S, Messrs V. G. Day and J. Spiller; treasurer, Mr F. Woodford; secretary. Mr Fraser; committee, Messra G. G. Compton, W. Roberts, R. A. Joseph, L. R. Smith and F. H. Cumberworth.
