THE NIGHTCAPS COAL MINE.
(SPECIAL TO "THE TRESS.") DUNEDIN, Novembor 20. The "Otago Daily Times'' on the Nightcap's Commission, eays:—'lt is positively shocking that the Commission appointed for the purpose of deciding where the responsibility lies for the occurrence of a serious disaster, should hold that one man at whose 'loo'r it impliedly lays the blame for the calamity, has committed no fault sufficiently serious to necessitate- his being called upon to show cause why his certificate should not be so much as suspended, and that it should similarly hold that a Government official, against whom it alleges remissness, in effect negligence and failure to appreciate important points within the scope of his duty. is not deserving of eevere censure. With all due. respect to the Commissioners, we feel obliged to say that the mine manager and the inspector of mines are not- the only persons whose judgment lias been proved by the ejiquiry to be glaringly at fault." (special to "the muss.") WELLINGTON. November 20. It is practically certain that, ac the result of the report of the Royal Commission on the Nightcaps colliery disaster, some further action will betaken by the authorities.
