The Blackball collier Petone arrived early yesterday morning from Greymouth. After landing a part cargo of ooal the vessel sailed In the afternoon for Wellington, where ahe will discharge ihe balance. Tbe Union Company* chartered steamer Largo Law. from Newoaptle. via Welling, ton. arrived early yesterday morning. Tho vessel is landing part cargo of coal here, and is expected to sail to-morrow for Timnru, where she will discharge tbe balance, after which eh* will probably return to Australia. Tha Union Company's new turbine steamer Maori, specially built for the Lyt-teltbn-Wallington ferry service, will srrive n**« this morning from Dunedin, and will take up her running to-night. It is the intention ol the Union Company to despatch the Maori from Lyttelton on Tuesday. Thursday and Saturday each week, on arrivol ot tha 7*5 n.m. (rain from Christchurch, Thi« will enable Ihe vessel, with her peat speed, t© reach Wellington in ample time to connect with, the northern express. The Mncri will leave Wellington at 8 p.m., and will arrivs in Lyttelton in timo for her passenger,* «nd mails to cstnh th* firet express from Chri*t«huroh to Dunedin. The U.S. and AS S.
