NELSON, November 18. Mrs Elisa Pidgeon, a very old resident of tho city, dropped dead in Selwyn Place to-day. the cause of death being heart failure.

HAWERA, November 18. Thomas John Keneally. aged forty, a farmer at Otakeho, whilst milking yesterday wos killed by a kick on the head from the cow.

DUNEDIN, November 18. At the inquest to-day on tho body of Herman Louis Sachtler, 10 yeans of age, tbe evidence given was that the lad, with six companions, wont camping at Purakanui on tho 9th inst. On tho 11th inst. tho campers had two tins of salmon for breakfast, and the same evening they returned to town. On AVednesday ovenipg Snohtler complained of abdominal cramp, and seemed to bo suffering from bacterial poisoning. On Friday ho was suffering from incensant vomiting, severe abdominal pains, cramp?, diarrhtea, cold sweats, anuria, ana collapse, and ho died on Saturday morning. _ Fifty hours had elapsed from the timo he ate th© fish and the time the symptoms of bacterial intestinal infection developed. Dr. Roberts, who made the post mortem, said there was only a remote possibility of any connection between the taking of the tinned fish and tho cause of death, as the intervening period was too long. Death was duo to bacterial intestinal infection, but it was difficult to aasfen any cause. Dr. Falconer, hospital surgeon, said casfs had boon recorded _ where 43 hours had elapsed before symptoms had appeared, but h© did not know of .t longer period. A verdict of death from bacterial poisoning was returned, there being no evidence to show the cause.
