A MIDNIGHT METAPHOR
At tho witching hour in tho Now South Walee Legislative Assembly last week nn lion, member was talking tediously on the remission of incomo tax to a J-iousn that yawned. He said that during tho last election tho lato Premier had faced a strong wind of battle, which increased as the campaign went on to a hurricane. "Ttfr Carruthers, ho continued, "retreated in good '<>rder, and marshalled his forces, leaving the slain on the field. Since then, however, lie haft drifted out to sea, with the applo of discord in his hands, and his followers no longer clinging to his coattails." Tho chairman called "Order!" An hon. member, in a satirically commendatory tone, ot voice, remarked, "Not bad for this hour of night 1"
