DIOCESAN STANDING COMMITTEE.
Tho Standing" Committee met on November 12th. A motion of sympathy with the Rev. J. H. Rogers, in reference to his recent, eevere illness was adopted. The Bishop stated that- he expected a clergyman to arrive next week from England for work in part of the Malvern cure. The sum of £25 was votod from ..the General Trust Estate subsidy towards his passage money. Sub-committees were elected as follower—For Church missions: The Yen. the Archdeacons of Christchurch and Akaroa, the Rev. Canon Paecoe. the Rev. C. H. Gosset, the Rev. W. W. Sedgwick, and Messrs W. H. IJargreaves, C. H. Bridge, and G. G. Bridges. For religious education : Tho Yen. the Archdeacon of Akaroa, tho Rev. Canon Pescoe, the Rev. J. H. Rogers, Messrs W. C. Bean, and E. J. Rose. For building Plans and Parochial loans: The Archdeacon of the District, and Messrs W. G. Brittan, and C. H. Bridge. For the "Neve Zealand Church News": The Rev. Canon Paecoe, Messrs H. W. Bishop, W.C Bean, and G. G. Bridges. For temperance work: The Rev. F. P. Fendall, and Mr W. C. Bean. It -was resolved to elect the Council of the proposed Diocesan Girls' High School at the next meeting, special notices to be given. The resolutions of the recent session of Synod, committing certain matters to tie Standing Committee, were then dealt with. The sum of £45 towards three theological exhibitions, of £60 each, at Christ's College, wae voted for the current half-year from the Church. Mission Fund. Removal grants were voted from the Church Mission Fund to the Vicars of Helswell and Weikari, and from a lapsed Church Property Trust grant to the Vicars of Opawa and Sydenham. Grants for lay readera' expenses at Kumar* end in the Halswell cure were voted, end an amount from the Invalided Clergy Duties Fund wae placed at the disposal of the Bishop for services at Little River. It was agreed to recommend the Church Property Trustees to make a grant of £250, and a ten-years' loan of £325 to the parochial district of Methven for completing the payment for their vicarage, conditionally on the property being vested in the Church Property Trustees. The Archdeacon of Christchurch reported on certain Rangiora properties which he had been esked to inspect, and also as to the insurance on the vicarage. The Diocesan Treasurer wae authorised ip pay the Maori Mission Assessment for , the September quarter. The question of an appeal in the metter of the Lucas (Akeroa) endowment wae coneidered, and it was resolved to communicate with the vestry in reference thereto.
