ATTITUDE OF THE TINSMITHS' UNION
TO THE KDIIon OF "iJtE TBESS." Sir, —Wo are directed by tho Tinsmiths' Union to reply to the strictures you Jiavo put upon tho union's resolution re tho above enso. In spite * of yonr assertion to tho contrary we reassert that the Buspenaion wue "brutal and undemocratic/ , and wo still call upon every unionist throughout New Zealand "never to oeaee to oppose . the Government or any member of the House who assist in perpetrating such an outrage." No other .public 6er* rant haa boon suspended without being first warned of his offence, and we claim that tho circumstances undei* which Mr McCullough hne been, deprived of his meane of livelihood ft.ro 6uch that no truo unionist can do other than what wo have called on thorn to do. Your comparison between* the throe high officials you montion and Mr McCullough is most unfair. We will admit that any officer of the' public service is chosen almost eolely on account of his " discretion arid strict impartiality, but for a man who bends tin into this or that chape, and who, in his capacity as tinsmith, never oomos into contact with the public, to be gagged, is beyond our ■understanding. Our union will never coaeo to oppose any Government or regulation which restricts tho freedom of any section of the" public, . and is looking forward to tho time when a real live labour party will represent tho worknre in Parliament," . Wo have the honour to bo, yours truly, •■..,. For the Tinsmiths Union, G. E. BOCK. President. . L. F. GEE, Secretary. Trades HaJl, Chriatchurch Oct."l4th.
