DIOCESAN STANDING COMMITTEE.
Th© Standing Committee met on September 10th. The Bishop informed the committee of tho following changes of cures made or imminent:— The Rev. W. H. Orbell, from Leestoh to Woolston; the Rev. J. R. Wilford, from Waikari to Prebbleton; the Rev. C. G. Biddle, from Halswell to Le©ston; the Rev. F. Dunnage, from Methven to Halswell; tbe Rev. H. T. York, from tlie Nelson diocese to Methven ; and the Rev. A. G. Forbes, from St. Michael's to Waikari. Both St. Michael's and St. Luke's were in urgent need of assistant curates. He required a stipend for a deacon to work among the employees on tho Midland railway. It waa resolved that a stipend of £150 be guaranteed for this work from the Church Mission Fund, all local contributions received to ho paid into that fund. On the application of the vicar of Glenmark, a Ohuroh property trust grant was voted for the cure of Glenmark. An application for expenses of removal thither was deferred for further information. The Bishop informed the committee that a good Maori Mission Committee had been constituted. Further, that the Standing Commission of the General Synod had upheld the Primate's ruling in the General Synod that the bill for altering the mode of election of Standing Committees was inadmissible, as being contrary to the constitution. An offer for the Sheffield vicarage premises Bad been accepted by tho Church Property Trustees. A recommendation to the Church Property Trustees to purchase on offered site for a mission room in the Burwood cure was adopted. The sub-committees for religious education and church missions reported their proceedings. A grant of £20 was made from a special day schools fund for tho salary of a pupil teacher in St. Michael's' day school. Plans for a church in St. Albans east and a vicarage at Little River were approved. It was agreed to recommend the Church Property Trustees to make a loan of £40 on the five years' scale to the parish of Rakaia towards tho cost of improvements at the vicarage. The inspector's rejwrts on the Prebbleton. Leeston and Halswell vicarages were submitted, and the usual action wa6 or.lt.red in respect of them. A letter iron; the churchwardens. Cust, in reference to their guarantee, was read. Por tho electoral district of Courtcv.n., Mr W Guise Brittan was appointed synods-' man. and for the electoral district of To Isgrtwai Mr G. H. N Helnlore, second writs having faile-l in both these cases. The registr .r , reported that all the seats were now filled, except that for Riccarton. Tiie Standing Committee having been asked to nvonsider the proposal to purchase a part of the Pleasant Point Endowment land, resolved to adhere to their previous decision. It was anwd to recommend to Synod an extension of the hind annexed to tb* deaconess house. The expenses of the Roy. E. H. Shore m removing from Malvern to Christchurch were voted from the Church Mission Fund. After letters of thanks for grants and a parochial loan had been reported, tho committee adjourned.
