AUSTRALASIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
(press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, September 10. Soven heats in tho Australasian Boxing Championships wore decided at the Opera House to-night. There was a largo audience. His Excellency tho Governor was among tho spectators. The judges wero Messrs F. W. B. Groville and H. M. Rosenberg, ond Dr. Napier McLean was referee. On tho whole tho boxing was not specially interesting. Three of the heats ended within ono minute, loss than ono round being boxed. All these heats wero won on fouls, tho audience thus losing its sport. In tho heavy-weight contest victory went to C. Hill, of New South Wales, list, who mot J. Lloyd of Christchurch, 12st. After a minute's brisk boxing, the referee gavo the bout to Hill, being of opinion that Lloyd held. Tho bantams who tried conclusions were R. Cantwell, of Queensland, Bst ljlb; and J. Parker, of Canterbury, Bst l*lb. After a very short set-to tho decision wont in favour of Parker, through Cantwell holding. The featherweights wero F. Fitzjohn, Now South Wales, Bst 3ilb, and W. Elliott, Timaru, Bst lOJlb. Elliott was declared the win T ncr. Another bantam contest wns between E. Lusher, New South Wales, Bst 011b, and V. B. Tracey, Wellington, ost OJlb. Tho decision was given in favour of Lusher. This is tho first time Tracey has been beaten in New Zealand, though Dickonson defeated him in Sydney. Another featherweight fi>ht wns between V. Roughsedge, Queensland, Bst llilb, and A. Tresizo, Ashburton, Bst 131b, the latter winning. In the middleweight contest, C. Hill, of New South Wales, could not draw the weight to meet L. Fletcher, of Wellington, so A. J. Scanlon, Queensland, 10st 12»llb, and J. Uclkrmott, Invercargill, list 3slb, were t»io only starters in this cla33. Scanlon was given the verdict, as his opponent hold.
