WILL GERMAN RECORDS BE BEATEN?

LONDON, September 8. The new turbine steamer Lusitania sailed for New York two and a-half hours after the Lucania. Escitoment prevailed amongst the paesengcre as to tl/a result of the race, and the chancei of beating German steaming records.
As the Lusitania was built to win back the speed supremacy of the Atlantic from Gormony, great interest is naturally attached to her first voyage. The record is at present held by the Hamburg-American liner Deutschland, which crossed from New York to Plymouth in, 5 days 7 hours 38 mm, with an average speed of 23.51 knots. The Lueitania was designed for a speed of 25 knots. The Lwani* is another Canard boat, and has averaged 21.75 knots.
