COUNTY COUNCILS.
WAIMATB. The Waimato County Council met on Wednesday. Present:—Crs. P. Studholme (chairman), Lyall, Walker, Rhodes, Hart, Milne, and Hmithe. Tho Timaru Harbour Board wrote stating j uVat the sum parable by the Council was £977 lis £_. It was resolved that Mr Rhodes obtain a rew bushels of poisoned grain and try its effects for bird destruction. Mr T. Toscheraaker wrote stating that he was willing to sell to the Council four lots in Tavistock township at £5 oach. It was decided that Mr D. Middleton be allowed to erect a rabbit-proof swing gate across Grassy Hill road at the junction with Takitu road, and to erect a rabbit-proof fence on the edge of tho road formation at rock cutting, Takitu road. It was decided that the petition for the formation of a side track from tho main road, Otato. to Tavistock (140 chains) be complied with. The tender of Mr J Menzies (£7B 15s) the lowest of four, was accepted for repairs and additions to the Council's workman's cottage at Tavistock. It was resolved that a gen-, oral rate of ■fliree-fourteenths of a penny in the £ be levied on unimproved values on the portion of Waimatc County within the Timaru Harbour Board district for the year ending March 31st, 1908, and a count) rate of three farthings in the £ on the unimproved value of the county for the year ending March 3ls't, 1908. It was decided that enquiries Im> made in the ridings of Upper Pareora, Waihero, and Hakat_ramea as to suitable sites for workmen's cottages for the Council. It was decidedthe Levels Count r Oouncil be asked for details of work proposed to be carried out on Brassell's Main Otipua road.
