The fact that the proposal to abolish tho duty on flour was only lost by one vote in the House of Representative, has had a disquieting ettect upon tne local wheat market, and until the matter is finally settled there i- not likely to be any business done, 'lo show vuat there is st. ll plenty of wheat leu in Australia,- from which to supply Nov Zealand with flour, it may bo pomte_ out that tho harvest for tho Commonwealth for 190.7 wa.-. placed at between Gd and 69 million busuels, and the approximate surnlus over home requirements at 38 to 40 million bushels. As shown above about *>i nAlUon bushels have been exported, 'lnero is tlieief-i*-a net surplus of between 3< million and 38 million bushels to be exported. Since December lath last, 1577 sacks of wheat and 14,431 sacks oi Hour havo been oxported from Melbourno and New Zealand, and the week before last 400 sacks of flour were shipped from Sydney. In spite of the duty thereforo a considerable quantity or flour is coming into the country. The removal of tno duty would consequently mean a very large increase. . In ochor lines of grain and produco there is nothing fresh to report, the only business passing being in seeds, tor which there is a brisk demand. Tho undermentioned aro tho prices paid to farmers at country stations, free of commission, except where otherwise stated: —
