CANTERBURY EX-CONTIN-GENTERS' ASSOCIATION.
The first annuHTWeting of tho Canterbury Ex-cQ-Ainiaenters' Association was held ■ in ;- >tß_ \T_ Battery Orderly Room last evening. Major Cossgrove presided, and there was a large attendance. 4 Tho annual report ajid balancesheet showed that the Association had every reason to be gratified with the results aohieved. There were 163 members on tho roll, of whom 84 were financial, including 10 honorary members. Tho reunion held on December 16th last proved a great success, hut the annual "smoke oh," held a fortnight later, though enjoyable, # was numerically and i financially a failure. The thanks of tlie Association were due to donors of prizes and tho officer cpmmanding the E Battery for the use of their room during, the year. The Association had taken an interest in all things military, and hoped to make lectures and debates a feature of the coming year's work. The defence regulations would not permit of a riflo club being formed, but new regulations had been issued by which reserve corps of ex-contingenters could be formed, with the result that tho Association took advantage of tho regulation. Morris-tube shooting had been indulged in during tho year, but the absence of facilities was keenly felt. This state of affairs would be rectified during tho ensuing year. The funds had not been called upon for any .charitable purooses. The Patriotic Fund Committee had granted £25 for the Association's purposes. The balance-sheet showed that tho Association had a credit ,balnnce of £32 Is 7d. The assets amounted to £2, and tho liabilities were nil. Mr Overton, in moving tbe adopttion of the report and balance-sheet, congratulated the Association on tho work accomplished during tbe year, and the state of tho finances.
