WELLINGTON TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL.
(SPECI.U. TO "THE PRESS.")
WELLINGTON, August 30
Objection was taken last night by delegates to the Trades Council to what was termed "the personal attacks on Mr Andrew Collins by the Employers' Association and the Press of the colony." After some discussion the following resolution was carried, with slight opposition:—"That this Council views with considerable apprehension the Unmitigated attacks now being made on labour legislation through the medium of 'Mr Andrew Collins, by concerted action of employers, assisted by a capitalistic Press, in respect of that gentleman's official position as a representative of the workers on. the Conciliation Board, and we have every reason to believe that such attacks are being made with the object of securing an amendment to the
Act in the direction of prohibiting officers and members of tho Unions representing the workers acting as members uf the Board and Arbitration Court; and we hereby draw the attention of the democratic members of Parliament to this, and respectfully urge upon them the desirability of strenuously apposing any such proposal, or any other that may have for its object the breaking down of labour legislation."
