THE NIGHTCAPS MINE DISASTER.
(press association teleoham.) INVERCAKGILL, August 29. The matter of the settlement of claims in reference to the Nightcaps coal mine disaster was mentioned in the Supreme Court to-day, and his Honour made final apportionment as follows:—Mrs Carson, £400; her children, £500. equally divided; 31rs Duncan. £300; her children, £COO. equally divided; tho two children of Welsh, £200 each. In regard to the settlement, it should bo mentioned that from the first tho Company has shown a desire to make adequate provision for the widows and families of the miners who wero killed. Before proceedings were instituted it is staled the Company offered £1000 to Mrs Duncan, £1000 to Mrs Carson, and £300 to tho Welch children.
