Mr V. G. Day, S.M., presided ot the Magistrate's Court nt Christchurch yestordov.
John Snow was charged with having permitted a horse to wander in the public streets at Sumner. The defendant stated in defenco that he had leased the horse to a man named W. Thomas, who had control of it. Ho had not claimed tho horso from the constable, and knew nothing of the affair until ho was served with a summons. Tho cbso was dismissed. Daniel Smith, W. Thomas, James Scott, and James McCombe were each fined 103 and costs for having allowed cows to wander. Henry Stuart (Mr Johnston) was charged with keeping dangerous dogs. Evidence was given by several persons whom tho dogs had attacked and molested. Defendant stated that he had two mastiff dogs., <m old dog and a pup. When he received complaints in regard to the way. the dogs interfered with people passing his house, he shot the old mastiff dog, and sold the pup. He had at present two Cocker Spaniels, one collie, and a pig dog. Tlih Magistrate entered a conviction, _id ordered defendant to pay the costs. Walter Chisnall, Thomas Hooper, George Ditford. and J. Austin were each fined 2s without costs for failing to send their children to school.
