KAIAPOI. At tho fortnightly meeting of ttie Kniapoi Borough Council on Tuesday night, it was reported that the transier of land to widen Cam road hod been completed, and it was decided that tinWorks Committee should proceed wir the work. A number of letters offering lighting plants were referred to the Lighting Committee, to report at next meeting. The Postal Department not having replied as to opening the Post ami Telephone Office irom 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., it was resolved to communicate with the Department again. -A petition from twenty telephone bureau subscribers, requesting th.it connection b3 made with tho railway station, was endorsed. It was stated that no ISortr, Island towns persons using telephone bureaus could communicate freo witJi railway stations. Tho receipts were £13 lite lid, the overdraft wns £22f 19s and accounts for £117 Os (including £00 on account of Cam Bridge; wore passed. Regarding the channelling, kerbing. and asphalting scheme, tho Council adopted the "Finance Committee's amended report to remiee tho first estimate by £7(X) to £4000, the amount to bo ra!«.«l at H per cent, by a rate of 4Jd upon a valuation of £10,G09. Tho committee advisrd ihnt if the loan was carried, owners of properties shoula not bo asked to pay half the cost ot channelling, as orginrdly The Mayor recommended the first year's interest be paid from the loan. .Mr Elackuvll also stater] that if the amount could be got from the Government, under tho Loans to Local Bodies Act, at !i\ per cent., the repayments could be extended over forty years.
