THE ROTORUA RAILWAY ACCIDENT.

AUCKLAND, August 29. The Rotorua train accident enquiry was resumed to-day. Robert Simpson, car inspector, stated that he made <i careful examination of tho wreck. Westinghouse brakes , were in four of the waggons, but were not on by pressure of air. In no other waggons wero Westinghouse brakes on. Hand brakes wero not on any of the waggons. Tho hand brake on the loading van had been applied, but not very hard. Tho hand brake had been put very hard on the pissonger oar, and on the van the brake was smashed. Other hand brakes might have been apnlied, and como off when the train rolled down the incline. He could nrft form any conclusive opinion as to the condition of tho brake when tne train broke iway. Two of the train men stated that Maori children were in the habit of entering trucks and carriages et Ngatira, and there was some dancer of the couplings or cocks being shifted by them. *
