ARTHUR'S PASS TUNNEL.
DISCONTENT IN AUCKLAND.
(nil* ASSoouTiOBr tilh-uk.) AUCKLAND, July M. The contract let by the Government for tho construction of the Arthur*! Pass tunnel on the Midland Railway, at a cost of £600,000, was strongly commented upon at the Chamber of Commerce, tho opinion being generally expressed that the money could bo used ■ in other ways so as to give better returns. A resolution was carried urging the Auckland members to united action to secure a fair and just allocation to the Auckland province of moneys for railways and other public works, and further vigorously protesting against the expenditure sanctioned for the Arthurs Pass tunnel.
