At 3.30 yesterday morning an alarm of fire wae received from a b.K at the Clock Towe.r. The brigade turned out promptly and located tho fire in a building ownod by Mrs A. .T. AVhite., and occurred by Mr Brice and Mr Bncon, bicycTe-ninkcr and fruiterr-r respectively, near Adam-' Star cycl" works in High street. Two chemical engines wom> brought into action and tho. firo -was extinguished nfter abo.it £30 or £10 worth of damage hnrl been ''one by fire and water. The fire v<n discovered by Mrs Brioo, who liv<v* on tho promisr*, and originated in a room at the roar c-f Mr Bacon's shop used for ripening bananas, a gas stove being kepi alight nil niclit. for that pur-no-o.
