1 (nUtSS ASSOCIATION TKLIQKAM.) AUCKLAND, July 6. A private cable reports that the Norwegian barque Vifung hee been abandoned, and announces tho death of Captain Harold C. Petterson and his wiio, to whom he was married just before leaving Auckland for New York on May 2nd. Mrs Pettereon was the daughter of Mr J. D. Stewirt, manager of the Kauri Timber Company's mill at Hokianga. Nothing ie stated as to the fate of tho remainder of tho tassel's crovr, which was as follows:— N. Clansen, first mato. N. McDonald, seamen. July 7. The Viking left Auckland with a cargo valued at £45,000. It consisted of 7205 caeca and 31 eaoke of kauri gum, and 83 packages of merchandise. Tho bulk of the gum was shipped by Mean* F. C. Gilleepie and Sons, who chartered the vessel. Their quota totalled 6055 cases, the estimated value of which wns £38,000. - Tho shipment ffaa fully insured in a New York office Meesre G. W. S. Patterson and Co. shipped 1091 cases of kauri gum, and Mrears g. Winterbonne and Co. shipped the balance of tho gum—lsG oases and 81 sacks—of the total value of about £1500, and their risk is also covered rJT insurance. Messrs Sharland and •00. had 18 cases of drugs on board, and ■> Messrs J. J. Craig, Ltd., 64 packages ■; of machinery. The Viking was built at Grimstad •ome three or four years ago.
