BOXING.
THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP. W. Squires, the Australian champion, who went to Americn, recently in order to contest the world's championship, was matched against T. Burns, and the two men met on Thursday. Tho fight, however, was of very brief duration, for a cable messjigo received from Sydney by Mr A. fckjhlesinger states that Burns won in forty-soveu seconds. Tho compact between the boxers and th<> promoter provided for Marquis of Queensborry rules, with c 45-rounds limit. It was agreed that Burns was to receive 8000 dollars whether ho won or lost, while 6<imros's portion of the gate woe to be GO per cent., or threehflhs of the gross takings if ho won, and 40 per cent, if he lost. In tho event of the fight drawing more than 30,000 dollars, tho basis of division was to bo increased 5 per cent. Jemcd Jeffries, the retired champion, was to act as referee, and receive a fee of 1000 dollars.
